Steve Stockhall's Photography Blog :: Introducing Steve & Earth | Ark Botswana
Steve Stockhall is a bit of a bush legend in Maun, the gateway to the Okavango Delta. On completing our Okavango Expedition in July 2011 we met Steve while drinking a few well deserved beers at the end of the trip. Be sure to follow Steve's blog as the man is a genius in the bush and with camera in hand. We will also be running a competition to win Steve's book "Wildlife Photography in Botswana - A Practical Guide - 2010" which will also be available from mid-September from The Safari Store.
Over to Steve:
I was born in Zimbabwe and have lived in Botswana for just over 13 years. I have also lived in Namibia, Mozambique, South Africa, United Kingdom and Australia, but definitely call Botswana home. To live amongst the highest concentration of Elephants on Earth is an absolute privilege. I believe that living amongst them to mean that I have really lived life. Going on safari at some point is a must for all. There is much we have to learn as a species if we ourselves are to survive on this blue planet.

Botswana is rated as one Africa’s finest destinations in Africa. It has some the largest intact eco-systems as well as the largest intact wildlife migrations in Southern Africa. In this age where we are having a major impact on bio-diversity across our planet, Earth |Ark Botswana sets out to show case the beauty of our planet and the reasons why bio-diversity is not only important to all life on earth, but why it is critical to save bio-diversity.
Our primary objective is to teach people to obtain a greater understanding of nature through the lens of a camera – call it "cameras for conservation" if you wish!
With this in mind, we will be starting a blog that will keep you informed on not only various camera techniques and equipment but also conservation issues that are pressing in Africa today.
In the words of Baba Dioum, A Senegalese Poet –
"In the end, we conserve only what we love. We love only what we understand. We understand only what we are taught."
And so we look forward to writing a fortnightly blog on wildlife and photography – two great subjects in this, the 21st century.
All the best,
Steve Stockhall
