Swarovski SLC 10x42 WB HD Binoculars
What we say about the Swarovski SLC 10x42 WB HD Binoculars:
Swarovski built their reputation on the SLC range. But they have not sat on their laurels. While the EL range has pushed the limits of optical performance, Swarovski continue to making incredible advances with the SLC range. It really is a case of improving on perfection. The Swarovski SLC 10x42 WB HD Binoculars are our personal binoculars of choice, and they are only half a quick step behind the EL range in terms of technology, especially with the addition of High Definition lenses, optimised coatings, and an even faster focusing mechanism. It was through a pair of SLC binoculars that our Managing Director and product tester Steve saw rhinos feeding on an evening star walk at Phinda Private Game Reserve in Zululand during a ranger training course. Why is this remarkable? With the naked eye he could not see any sign of the rhino, and only the sounds of their feeding alerted him to their presence. Through the Swarovski SLC 10x42 binoculars he could see the feeding white rhino. Such is the level of light enhancement of the lenses. Had he needed to climb a tree (as sometimes may happen when white rhinos become curious, or if your guide has not been alert to their presence), with the new High Definition Swarovski SLC 10x42 WB HD Binoculars he would still have been able to focus on the rhinos, even if they started feeding at the base of the tree due to a close focussing distance of 1.9 meters (6 feet). It was this experience with the rhinos that started Steve's love affair with Swarovski Optik in general, and the SLC range in particular. For the snap shot adaptor use a compact digital camera with maximum 4x optical zoom and extendable objective lens.
THE NEW SLC 42 HD - A CLASSIC PERFECTED:
With their reliable, high-quality optical system and rugged construction, the SLC binoculars are among the world's most popular high-end binoculars. The thumb rests on the underside and the depressions on the top side of the easy to handle rubber armoring ensure secure and comfortable handling. The diversity of models among the SLC binoculars offers the right solution for every purpose.
In the SLC series, Swarovski Optik uses high-quality technologies such as the SWAROBRIGHT coating for maximum color fidelity across the whole light spectrum or the SWAROTOP and SWARODUR coatings for bright, high-contrast images.
The non-stick effect of the SWAROCLEAN coating on the outer surface of the lens makes cleaning objective and eyepiece lenses considerably easier, above all when removing dried-on mineral residues (e.g. water marks due to condensation), insect repellents and tree resin. The lenses require less intensive cleaning which significantly increases the longevity of optical products.
HIGH-PERFORMANCE HD OPTICS:
The fluoride-containing HD lenses ensure bright, high contrast images with maximum color fidelity. Enhanced special coatings support this effect. The new SLC 42 HD is also suitable for close-range observations at distances of up to 6 feet. Taken in combination, the result is a pair of reliable, high-performance binoculars that let you see nature in all its glory.
HIGH DEFINITION - NATURAL COLORS, MAXIMUM CONTRAST:
Fluoride-containing HD lenses minimize the color fringing that is unavoidable with conventional types of glass. As a result, the new SLC 42 HD provides high contrast images in natural colors with razor-sharp outlines: exceptionally high quality crystal-clear images that brings you even closer to the true beauty and fascinating details to be found in nature.
OPTIMIZED COATING - BRILLIANT IMAGES, EVEN IN TWILIGHT:
The enhanced coatings of the lenses and prisms (SWARODUR, SWAROTOP, SWAROBRIGHT) support the effect of the HD lenses. Observe nature at its finest, even in twilight or difficult lighting conditions. The SWAROCLEAN coating on the outer surface of the lens provides an anti-stick effect, making it easier to clean away dirt such as water marks, insect repellents or tree resin.
LARGE FIELD OF VIEW - EVEN FOR EYEGLASS WEARERS:
The SLC 42 HD stands out in comparison to other binoculars due to its larger exit pupil distance. This enables eyeglass wearers to enjoy the entire wide-angle field of view and to benefit in full from the crystal-clear images provided by the new SLC HD. The SLC 8x42 HD, for instance, gives a 408 feet field of view, providing the best overview in its class. The removable twist-in eyecups are individually adjustable in three stages.
NEW FOCUSING MECHANISM:
The new SLC 42 HD not only offers excellent optical performance. The new focusing mechanism also enables particularly fast and highly precise adjustments.
COMPACT AND RUGGED:
Thanks to its short, slender construction, the new SLC 42 HD fits even better in your hand. And the new magnesium housing makes it significantly lighter than its predecessor - ideal for fatigue-free and precise observation, even when wearing gloves.

How Many to Pack for your Safari:
How Many to Pack for your Safari:
Pack at least one pair of binoculars per couple. The ideal is really one pair of binoculars per person so that you, your partner and your family (if going on a family safari) are able to appreciate the wildlife interaction you are viewing (hunting and so forth) at the same time. If you intend not to take binoculars, and borrow from your safari guide, please note that this is not ideal. Not only will you be hindering your experience on safari and miss out on a great deal of the detail those with binoculars will see, but you will also affect your guide's ability to interpret wildlife behaviour - or indeed spot wildlife.
